While education was not the Du Bois's
primary focus, his work made a lasting impact upon American education. Du
Bois's contribution to education included the following:
fostering within the white community
a sense of responsibility for their fellow citizens of African
uniting Americans of all ethnic
backgrounds in the struggle for racial equality, including equalized education
expanding the number of higher educational
opportunities available to African-Americans.
significantly raising the quantity
and quality of educational opportunities available to African-American
communicating the importance of both
quality education and hard work in the quest for social
founding and publishing the first
children's magazine written especially for African-American children.
